Quilting is an activity that many friends and family members share with one another. We love it when people come in together to rent - the atmosphere is full of excitement and fun! Valerie and Judy are neighbors, friends, prolific piecers, and frequent renters here at Quilted Joy. In fact, they are here quilting as I'm writing this! Judy recently brought in this top, a Missouri Star Quilt Co. design called Summer in the Park, and quilted it using white thread and the Cascade pantograph. I love the blues, greens and golds together and the secondary patterns created when she arranged the blocks in an alternating pattern. Valerie brought this great modern-style hexie top in to quilt on the same day. She wanted it to be interesting without the quilting overpowering, so we suggested the Square Spirals pantograph for a great overall texture and a variegated thread for interest. Isn't this amazing? Here's another quilt that Judy brought in on the same day. It's another MSQC design called Baby Blocks, made with super cute, bright and colorful polka dots and solid fabrics. I suspect that Judy pulled her solid colors out of the polka dot fabrics. Judy quilted this top using the Star Dance pantograph and white thread, and she just flew through the quilting. Valerie's mother is in her 80s and also pieces prolifically. She sends her tops in with Valerie to be quilted. Here are two of her quilts, quilted on the same backing fabric. Valerie used white thread and a free motion meander to quilt them. Evelyn and Kate are family who quilt at Quilted Joy - Evelyn is Kate's mother-in-law. Evelyn quilted this simple but dramatic quilt using the Heart Fancy pantograph and a dark red thread that blended well. Kate quilted her quilt using the Lorien's Paisley pantograph and a dark thread that worked well with both the red and the numerous batiks that she used throughout her quilt.
