Design ideas for Eve's Sampler Quilt with Floral Applique
I've been toying around with design ideas for Eve's quilt.
Here's my first idea. I added a low bowl type vase below the flowers in the corners and added stems and leaves to each flower. I really like the look but the problem comes with how I translate that idea to the flowers in the center of the quilt. Take a look at the photo of the middle of the quilt. See what I mean? There isn't room to add a vase and if I add a stem to each of those flowers it starts looking stringy.
The next idea is to take the scrolls from the fabrics and use that as my inspiration for a background filler around the flowers. Plus, it would add a trapunto effect to the florals as well. Each of the sampler blocks will have their own individual treatment. The center block gets a fleur-de-lis on each of the triangles with a continuous curve added in the lighter fabric squares.
The outside border would be piano keys. I'm liking design treatment #2. What about you? Vote in the comments!
