The fifteenth century writer John Heywood once said, "Many hands make light work." Last week, the Louisville Nimble Thimbles proved him right! They brought stacks of tops, batting and backings to quilt for their Cuddle Care program and left with a huge pile of quilted quilts. Volunteers load the APQS machines with LOTS of backing and batting to quilt more than 50 charity quilts in a day! During the year, Louisville Nimble Thimbles offers a number of educational programs to their members. They learn new techniques while completing quilts which are the perfect size for a baby or small child. The Wonky Log Cabin quilt is one example. Members brought lots of scraps, learned the techniques to make the block, and created eight quilts which were 41 inches by 41 inches. These were among the tops which were quilted on this day. They worked on their own projects when they needed a break. Most stayed all day, filling the studio with laughter. The classroom area became a cutting area and refreshment station. Debbie brought doughnuts to keep the energy level high. Louisville Nimble Thimbles invaded the Quilted Joy classroom during their Cuddle Care quilt-a-thon We loaded the APQS longarms with as much as ten yards of backing fabric and batting each. That's a LOT of backing and batting! Most of the quilts were 42" square or smaller, so the guild members quilted one top after another with just inches between them. One of the Millenniums had ten quilts rolled up on the takeup bar by the end of the day. One volunteer even quilted a Quilt of Valor quilt after she finished all of the Cuddle Care tops lined up for her machine. Finished quilts on their way to Kosair Charities We absolutely loved the energy of the Louisville Nimble Thimbles Cuddle Care group. I am proud to say that Louisville Nimble Thimbles has been my home guild for the past fifteen years. Thank you ladies - it was a fun day!
