Cheri's Patriotic Tumbler Block Quilts for Twin Grandsons
Parents and grandparents of multiples can probably relate to Cheri's dilemma. She wanted to make quilts for her grandsons. Normally, this would be a fun and easy project. But because her grandsons are twins, the quilts can't be exactly the same and they also can't be too different. Cheri, I can certainly appreciate your struggle! Cheri found a simple solution by making two similar, but different, tumbler block quilts.
For both of Cheri's tumbler block quilts she used a muted red, blue and cream color scheme. Her quilts have their slight variation in the cream colored fabrics. One of the quilts uses lighter creams and the other uses darker tan fabrics. It's just enough variation for these brothers to easily tell their quilts apart.
I love the classic patriotic look of Cheri's quilts. It's a color scheme no one grows out of, which is especially important when making a quilt for young kids.
The color scheme was also the inspiration for the quilting design. What goes better with a patriotic quilt than stars? Cheri liked the playfulness of the Stars and Loops pantograph. Both quilts received the same starry treatment. We needed to make sure they had the same quilting design so there wouldn't be any arguments over who's was better.
Cheri's grandson's now have two very special - and just different enough - tumbler block quilts to snuggle with!
