Cheri's Minerals Quilt
Learning to quilt is so much fun. The different quilts we make are a road map of how far we’ve come. Sometimes these projects are very impressive on their merit, but then add in the fact that the creator was still new to quilting and learning, and they are that much more amazing!
Today I’ve got a beautiful sampler quilt for you to "oh" and "ah" over. Cheri thinks this beauty was called Minerals. She made this quilt in a class at one of our local quilt shops. This was only her fourth or possibly fifth quilt ever and what a wonderful job she did!
When she dropped off her quilt I was struck by the fabrics. The fabrics she used look like luxurious suede, but they are actually aged muslin. The faded jewel tones just seem to glow on that dark background.
This quilt was surprisingly difficult to find the right quilting design for. We originally planned on a wavy Baptist fan pantograph, but as I quilted the first row it just didn’t feel right. Cheri and I exchanged a few emails and finally landed on this geometric hexagon pattern instead.
I’m so happy with the result! I really love the geometric quilting on top of all those squares. Cheri was so thrilled with her quilt. I can’t wait to see what she makes next!
