Cardinals are frequently seen as a motif around Christmas - on stained glass ornaments, on greeting cards, and in our own back yards. Here, we see cardinals making an appearance as a gift. This quilt, made by Karee for a grandchild, was all about the U of L Cardinals. Of course, I had to use Glide in the color Cardinal to quilt it! You may recall Karee's sampler quilt, about which I recently posted. She chose a unique setting for her blocks, which is something I've come to expect from her. Karee makes Christmas gifts for her grandchildren, including quilts. This quilt was for a grandchild who obviously either attends University of Louisville or is a big fan. Notice how Karee has used the licensed U of L fabric in the lower portion of the quilt, the area that would be on the bed. Of course, there are cardinals all over because that is the U of L mascot. What I didn't notice until we hung up the quilt for a photo is that the area of the quilt that would cover the pillow says "U of L"! What a clever touch! I quilted this quilt in an overall meander as Karee asked. Thread choice was up to me, and Glide in the "Cardinal" color worked perfectly. If you click on the images of the quilt to enlarge them, you can see how the color sets up an interesting contrast with the fabrics, especially the solid black fabric.
