Beverly took a class on applique a number of years ago and this beautiful top was the result. I was delighted to help her finish it!
This design was taught as a block of the month, so there are a number of different blocks. Some are pieced and some are applique. Beverly didn’t want me to quilt over her applique but did want a simple overall design on the quilt, so meandering was the best choice.
Look at the applique technique…it’s perfect. The technique appears to be freezer paper applique. I decreased the size of the meander around the applique so that I could get up close and give the effect of stitching in the ditch without actually doing it. I also used a smaller meander inside the wreaths. This helps her applique stand out from the background.
I used a soft, light gold thread for the quilting on this quilt. There are some areas where it is a little more visible, such as on the darker blue, but in most of the fabrics, it disappears.
Thank you, Beverly, for bringing this beautiful quilt to me for quilting!
