Lyvonn loves fun, vibrant colors, but you wouldn’t guess that from this quilt. Over the last few months, Lyvonn was making quilts for her sons’s homes. I’ve already shown you the Irish Chain she quilted herself during a rental on our APQS longarm machines. While in town for her rental, she also dropped off this sawtooth star for me to quilt.
Lyvonn’s son is a sailor for the US Navy, so when choosing the fabrics for this quilt she looked for fabrics with nautical themes. If it had been up to Lyvonn she might have added a few more colors, but her daughter-in-law prefers more neutral tones for her home. She paired this quilt with a creamy hand dyed 108″ width fabric for her backing.
For the quilting Lyvonn wanted a design that matched the nautical theme without being cheesy. I have a few designs that remind me of water and waves, and Lyvonn fell for the Turbulance pantograph. After quilting, it even looks like the wind and waves are blowing through the landscape of this quilt.
This quilt may not fit Lyvonn’s personal tastes, but she can’t deny it looks great!
