Recently my local guild, Louisville Nimble Thimbles, came to spend the morning at the APQS store. One of the service projects that the guild does is make love covers for the children at our local kiddo hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital. Most years we make between 200-300 quilts for the hospital.
Every quarter the guild has a workshop day where we come together to work on these quilts. I thought it would be fun to have everyone come to the shop and quilt as many quilt tops as we could for the project.
We had two people per machine with two quilts loaded per table. Most of the people had never worked on a longarm machine before, and we just did a free-motion meander on the quilt tops.
We finished close to 20 quilts in about 3 hours! We had door prizes, refreshments, and even used the die cutter to quickly cut out fabric for more quilts for the kids. What a wonderful morning!
Do you have a guild group who might be interested in a play date at the studio? We have longarm quilting machines and a large classroom with cutting stations.
