Anyone who knows me well knows that I have a secret desire to operate large industrial equipment. I don’t want to do it as a career but I’d really love to operate an excavator, dump truck and bulldozer- to name a few.
My new store has 18′ ceilings in the work studio where all the longarm machines are going to go for the hourly rental program. As any quilter would do, I wanted to hang quilts in the space like the banners in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. The challenge was going to be how to hang the ropes and structure I’d need to attach the quilts in order to change them out as desired.
Then I noticed a few buildings down was a rental place with scissor lifts! Hoo-Rah!
It was delivered via a forklift but they didn’t let me drive the fork lift. DRAT!
But, I did get to spend the day driving the scissor lift to install all the ropes and hangers from the rafters for the quilt displays at the new APQS showroom. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my mother’s assistance on the ground getting ropes and tools up to me. My brother even helped me out too.
I’m really pleased with the hanging system and I can’t wait to see the room full of quilty wonders! Plus, the back door got some fab letters too.

Woohoo! Always a plus to have family to help out!! Having fun and getting it done at the same time is always a good thing!
It is SO exciting to watch the progress on your new place. When it’s all done I’m gonna come over and see it!!
I’m with you in wanting to operate some of those big pieces of equipment. I did get to go up in one of those lifts a year or so ago. It was outside and it was a tad breezy. That was a rush.
I’m so glad to see the progress you are making. Is your shop near I-65? I’d love to stop by on my to or from FL in Feb.
Ooh off of I-64 ??? I’m off of I-64. I see a road trip in my future.
