While there, we toured Lincoln’s home, museum and tomb. It was fascinating. I really enjoyed seeing his home.

The museum was tremendous. The kidlets favorite spot was the playroom where they got to try on costumes and play with old-time toys like the hoop and stick.

The kitchen area was so tiny! I can’t imagine caring for so many children out of such a small kitchen in those long skirts. The home also had many sewing items laying about which were original.

I can’t imagine how Mary Todd and Abe survived the heartache of three children dying. Unimaginable. One of their sons was on his deathbed while Abe and Mary were hosting a state dinner. I would like to learn more about Mary Todd. She seems to be a tragic figure that endured so much sadness while shaping our country’s future.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed Springfield and at 11 years old they were the perfect age for the history lesson! I’ve also started reading a book my mom recommended called Team of Rivals. It is fascinating.
