The creative icon 3 is the next generation of PFAFF's flagship, and it was designed from what dealers and owners asked for. Two of those requests turned into the headline features: embroidery on a free arm, and a machine that sets itself up for quilting in the hoop.
It is not sold online. Call us and we will talk it through, take your deposit, and make sure you know what is arriving before it does.
Free-arm embroidery
This is the one that changes what you can take on. The creative icon 3 embroiders on a free arm, so a tube of fabric slides over it: a sleeve, a baby onesie, a tote, a pillowcase, a pant leg.
Personalizing a ready-made item has meant unpicking a seam, embroidering flat, and sewing it back up. On this machine the item goes on the arm finished and comes off finished.
A redesigned unit, and a 450mm square if you want it
Four hoops come with the machine: the Superior at 465 by 260mm, the Deluxe Hoop II at 360 by 200, the Master Hoop II at 240 by 150, and the 120 Square. That Superior hoop is long, which suits a border, a sleeve run or a row of blocks.
The headline 450 by 450mm area is reached with the optional creative Grand Turnable Hoop, which is bought separately. At that size you are stitching a jacket back or a finished quilt block in one hooping.
The projector got better, and the machine can scan the hoop
The interactive projector puts your design onto the fabric so you can place and edit it where it is going to live, rather than on a screen. Hoop scanning reads what is actually in the hoop, which is how you line a design up with a seam, a pocket or a block that is already there.
Exact Positioning now adjusts position and rotation to the stitch point, and if part of a design falls outside the hoop you can scale it to fit rather than start the hooping again. The same scaling makes the last section of a multi-hooping design meet the rest.
Quick Quilt Settings, for quilting in the hoop
Quilting an embroidered design onto a sandwich has meant a list of adjustments to get both sides looking right. One setting now does all of them: it turns ActivStitch off, raises the thread tension, turns off the automatic thread cut, and switches on the new bobbin pick-up.
Underneath it is the Enhanced Original IDT system with a sensor, feeding top and bottom together so the sandwich comes out flat and square.
Wider stitches, and a machine that reads the fabric
There are more than 870 built-in stitches, including a new set of creative Letters for sewn lettering. Side motion sewing produces decorative stitches far wider than a standard 9mm, and the enhanced Stitch Creator lets you design your own at that scale or reshape a built-in one.
Fabric Selection is the quiet one. Tell the machine what you are sewing and it sets tension, pressure and stitch settings for that cloth and that technique, so the first sample is closer to right.
CREATIVATE and mySewnet
The machine is on your wifi, so designs sync, the app reaches it and updates install themselves. CREATIVATE is the design and learning library that comes with it, and presale buyers get a full year of the Elite membership, which is where the roughly 10,000 designs and the font library live.

The creative icon 2 is the current flagship and is available now, with voice control and a 360 by 350mm embroidery area. What is free-arm embroidery?
The embroidery unit works on a free arm, so a tube of fabric slides over it. That means you can embroider a sleeve, a baby onesie, a tote or a pillowcase while it is still sewn up, instead of unpicking a seam, embroidering flat and sewing it back together.
Do I get the 450 by 450mm embroidery area?
Not with the hoops in the box. The 450 by 450mm area is reached with the optional creative Grand Turnable Hoop, which is bought separately. Yes. Tell the Quilt Fairies the brand, model, age and condition of your machine and we will give you a trade-in quote. Every PFAFF we sell is also eligible for the Quilt Fairy Godmother Program.
What warranty comes with the creative icon 3?
PFAFF publishes up to 20 years of warranty coverage on the creative icon 3. Every other machine in the creative icon family carries PFAFF's Limited 20/5/1 warranty, which is 20 years on the frame, 5 years on the electronic and electrical parts and 1 year on the remaining parts including labor. We will confirm the icon 3's final terms when it ships.
How is the creative icon 3 different from the creative icon 2?
The creative icon 3 adds free-arm embroidery, hoop scanning, Quick Quilt Settings with bobbin pick-up, Fabric Selection and a redesigned embroidery unit that reaches 450 by 450mm with an optional hoop. The creative icon 2 is available now and is the only PFAFF with voice control. The Quilt Fairies will happily compare them with you at (502) 718-7148.
