The HZL-DX7 is the computerized JUKI most people end up buying, and the reason is the feed. JUKI put its industrial box feed system into a home machine, so the feed dogs stay in contact with the fabric longer instead of lifting away between stitches. Denim folded three times for a flat fell seam, lightweight cotton, terry towel: the stitch comes out the same length on all of them.
Eight inches of throat and a table that comes with it
There are 8 inches to the right of the needle and 4.4 inches of height under the arm, and the extension table is in the box rather than on the accessory list. The machine weighs 22 lbs and measures 17.5 by 11.4 by 8.2 inches, so it will sit on a normal sewing table and still go to a retreat if you want it to.
287 stitches, printed where you can read them
The whole stitch library is printed on the inside of the lid, so choosing a stitch is a matter of lifting the top and reading, not scrolling. There are 287 patterns and 4 lettering fonts, plus a buttonhole sensor system that sews 16 styles and measures the button for you.
The buttons sit where your hand already is
Thread trimmer, needle up and down, and lock stitch are all above the needle. Speed tops out at 1,050 stitches a minute and slides down as far as you like. The foot pedal is programmable, so you can put thread cutting, reverse or the lock stitch on your heel and leave both hands on the work.
Float, pivot, and a plate with two holes
Press float and the presser foot rides slightly above the fabric, anywhere from 0 to 2.5mm in tenths of a millimeter, which keeps the top layer from being pushed ahead on a quilt or on velvet. Press pivot and the needle stops down while the foot lifts itself at every corner. And the two-in-one stitch plate switches from a wide opening to a single round hole, so a fine cotton is not drawn down into the slot when you start a seam.
A walking foot in the box, not on the invoice
Twelve presser feet come with it, and the two that matter to a quilter are both there: a walking foot and a free-motion quilting foot. So is the knee lifter, which raises the presser foot 12mm without your hands leaving the quilt, and a hard cover rather than a dust bag.

JUKI asks that the machine be serviced periodically by an authorized dealer to keep that warranty in force, which is worth knowing before you buy anywhere. Our bench is in Louisville and our own technicians run it, so a clean and a timing check means a drive across town.

What is the warranty on a new JUKI HZL-DX7?
JUKI America warrants a new home sewing machine to the original purchaser for five years on parts and two years on the motor, light assembly, wiring, switches, circuit boards and speed control. It covers normal household use in the United States and Canada, is not transferable, and asks that the machine be serviced periodically by an authorized JUKI dealer. Ours is that bench, here in Louisville.
Which Pixie Playdate class covers the DX7?
The computerized one. The NX7, DX7, F300 and DX-4500QVP are all computerized, so the free Juki Computerized Pixie Playdate is the class for them. There is a separate Pixie Playdate for the mechanical TL series. Both are free and you can come back as often as you like.
