Machine Information

The one you can carry to class

The Jubilant weighs 14.4 pounds and has a handle, which means it goes to a class, to a retreat, to a friend's dining table and back again with ease. What it gives up in size it does not give up in capability: 80 stitches, eight one-step buttonholes, an automatic needle threader, a free arm and feed dogs that drop for free-motion quilting. For piecing, small home decor and basic garments, it is a genuinely complete machine.

The Jubilant is often somebody's first real machine, and it is also what a lot of experienced quilters buy as a second one to leave packed for classes. If you are choosing between this and the Brilliant, the comparison chart above is the one we wrote ourselves, and the short version is on this page. Call us at (502) 718-7148 or send us an email and the Quilt Fairies and I will tell you which one fits how you actually sew.

“Excellent customer service. Very knowledgeable staff and Angela is remarkable!”

A woman carrying the Baby Lock Jubilant sewing machine by its built-in handle in front of a white brick wall.

14.4 pounds and a handle

The Jubilant is 16 1/4 inches wide and weighs about as much as a full gallon and a half of water. You can lift it with one hand, carry it down a flight of stairs, and set it up on a folding table without help. So, go ahead and take it to class, to guild, or to a friend's craft night. The Baby Lock Jubilant is ready for anything! It is built on an all-metal casting underneath the case, so being light does not mean being flimsy.

The Baby Lock Jubilant control panel showing the printed stitch chart, the LCD screen and the stitch selection dial.

80 stitches, chosen on a dial you can see

Fifty utility stitches and thirty decorative ones, including eight one-step buttonhole styles. The whole chart is printed on the front of the machine right beside the dial, so picking a stitch means simply glancing at the machine. The LCD screen shows you what you selected along with the stitch width and length, both adjustable to 7mm wide and 5mm long. Variable speed control sets the pace, and the machine runs to 850 stitches a minute.

The Quick-Set drop-in bobbin of the Baby Lock Jubilant with the clear cover open.

Quick-Set bobbin and an automatic needle threader

The bobbin drops in through a clear cover and sets itself, with no threading order to memorize and no fishing the bobbin thread up before you start. It takes standard Class 15 bobbins, so refills are available anywhere (and at Quilted Joy). The automatic needle threader handles the other half of setup. Between the two, getting from cover-off to first stitch takes about a minute. YAY!

A denim pant leg slipped over the free arm of the Baby Lock Jubilant to sew a hem in the round.

Take the flatbed off and hem a pant leg

Slide the accessory tray off and the Jubilant becomes a free arm, which is what lets you sew a hem, a cuff or a sleeve in the round instead of wrestling a tube of fabric flat. Jeans, pajamas, a child's sleeve, the bottom of a tote bag: all of them made easy with a free arm. The tray you removed is also where the accessories live, so nothing needs a separate box.

Drop the feed dogs and quilt it yourself

Flip one switch and the feed dogs drop out of the way, so you move the quilt rather than the machine moving it. That is free-motion quilting, and it is how you put your own stippling, loops or feathers on a baby quilt or a table runner without sending it out. On a machine at this price, having real drop feed rather than a cover plate is a phenomenal feature. Just know that once you get up to trying to free motion stitch a lap sized quilt you'll wish you had a machine with a bigger throat.

Love this machine!

This is the first machine I have bought, preferring to use my grandmother’s 1950 Singer until now. The Singer needed repair that was going to take several weeks, so I decided to take the leap into a new machine that would be portable and provide some “extras.” So glad I did! This powerful little machine is lightweight and does just enough to give me lots of options but not so much that it was too much machine. It’s the perfect “starter” machine for someone like me moving from a Classic to the modern era.

Baby Lock Jubilant Sewing Machine — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Baby Lock Jubilant?

The Jubilant is a compact computerized sewing machine in Baby Lock's Genuine Collection. It has 80 built-in stitches including 8 one-step buttonhole styles, an automatic needle threader, a Quick-Set drop-in bobbin, a free arm, retractable feed dogs and an LCD screen. It weighs 14.4 pounds and has a carrying handle.

How is the Jubilant different from the Brilliant?

The Jubilant is the smaller, lighter, less expensive machine, built to be carried. The Brilliant has 190 stitches to the Jubilant's 80, 14 presser feet to 7 including a walking foot, a knee lift, an automatic thread cutter, an LED light, a larger screen and a wider bed. If you piece and quilt several days a week the Brilliant is the better long-term buy. If you sew occasionally, take classes, or want a second machine to leave packed, the Jubilant is the sensible one. Download our beginner machine comparison chart on this page, or call us at (502) 718-7148.

Can you free-motion quilt on the Jubilant?

Yes. The feed dogs retract with a switch, which is real drop feed rather than a cover plate you snap over them. That is what lets you move the quilt yourself for stippling, loops or feathers. A free-motion or darning foot is the accessory to add for it.

Does the Jubilant come with a walking foot?

No. Seven snap-on presser feet come with the machine and a walking foot is available separately. If a walking foot in the box matters to you, that is one of the differences that pushes people toward the Brilliant, which includes one.

What bobbins does the Jubilant take?

Standard Class 15 bobbins, which are inexpensive and easy to find. The bobbin is a Quick-Set drop-in, so there is no threading order to get right and no need to bring the bobbin thread up before you sew.

Can I pay for the Jubilant over time?

You will see a Shop Pay Installments payment estimate on this page. Choose Shop Pay at checkout to split the purchase into payments if you qualify. You can also call the shop at (502) 718-7148 and we will walk you through the options.
