Wild Dresden Plate
One of my customers, Kathy, loves fun, funky, bold patterns and colors which is exactly my taste too. You wouldn’t catch me piecing a civil war reproduction quilt although I’ve seen some that are wonderful, it simply isn’t my cup of tea. Kathy’s over the top Dresden Plate was just what I needed to liven up my winter blahs.
I decided to do a scrolled wreath in the plates but where I had fun was in the kite setting squares.
There were plain purple ones around the center plate. I decided to do some ruler work to make a center medallion design spread out behind the center plate. I hope the photos here will show all my hard work. I’m still working on the best way to get photos for you.
I did a “V” exploding out from the center with inner echoes full of pebbles. I played with some rays to bring the eye out to the rest of the quilt.
In the kite setting blocks that were made up of plain purple fabric and polka dot fabric, I did an arched echo of the kite shape.
Finally, in the dotted kite setting blocks I decided to do what I call scimitar feathers. I’m sure there is a more proper name but they remind me of the big scimitar sword the soldiers chase Alladin with in the Disney movie.
They are my absolute favorite feather to make. Second favorite is penguin feathers. I’ll have to show you an example of those in another post. In fact, I’m planning on using penguin feathers in a log cabin quilt I’ve got on the frame right now.
Are you up for more eye candy from Kathy’s Dresden Plate quilt?
