Tina's Floral Cross Stitch Quilt is Finally Quilted!
What's the longest you've had a quilt wait to be quilted? 10 years? 20 years? How about almost 40 years?
Tina said she bought this cross stitch quilt kit back in the 1970s and started working through the cross stitch, but then life got in the way. Since then, it's been stored in boxes and bags traveling around with Tina patiently waiting for the day she would be able to pick it up again.
This quilt finally had it's time to shine earlier this year! Tina, a beginner quilter, finished piecing this beauty over the summer and brought it in for quilting.
I prefer quilting cross stitch quilts like Tina's with a simple wide open meander. She put so much work and time into all those little cross stitches. I don't want my quilting to distract from her hard work! The meander also allows me to watch where I'm quilting, that way I could avoid those French knots hidden in the center of some flowers.
Tina's quilt was a BIG quilt, measuring at 99" x 104". This meant, we needed an even bigger backing fabric! And we found the perfect fabric here in the shop, the 108" wide Beautiful Backing in Ivory Lace. It was subtle and delicate, much like her quilt.
Tina was so excited to pick up her finished quilt. It must have been quite the relief to know this quilt was finally finished and ready to be properly loved!
Do you have any tops that have waited a few decades to be quilted? I want to challenge you to take Tina's example and quilt some of those in 2018!
