Quilts are warm. We all know that. It is literally the whole point of a quilt. But quilts can be warm to look at as well. Some colors just give off a sense of heat and simply look warmer than others. These colors tend to be reds, golds, and browns though blues and greens can be added without losing the warm feeling. Check out the following quilts from our longarm machine renters and see if you agree with me.

The Warmth of Flannel Quilts

Anna Maria shows off a plus sign flannel quilt after quilting it on a longarm machine at Quilted Joy

This is a quilt from Anna Maria. She made this for her son-in-law who begged to have one. It is entirely made of flannel, both front and back. She quilted it with a paper pantograph, Turbulence. Doesn’t the red and golds just give off a warmth that the cooler colors of blue and green do not counter completely. Of course knowing it is soft and fuzzy on both sides of the quilt really can add to the expectation of warmth greatly.

New Longarm Quilters

Annette shows off her quilting after renting a longarm quilting machine at Quilted Joy

This is a quilt from Annette who was learning how to use the longarm machines with us. The pinks and beiges are warm colors and cozy and the green is a great accent to tie in the leaves from the main fabric found in the body as well as the border. She quilted it with our Crepe Myrtle Design Board. It has some cute little flowers and some long sweeping feathers. It has a classic and whimsical feel that looked amazing on this warm quilt.

Claudia shows offer her butterfly rainbow quilt after quilting it on a longarm machine at Quilted joy

Now this quilt from Claudia’s rental certification class has some very cool blues and purples, but the reds and oranges are on fire! Don’t you just love that panel in the center. The solid fabric is from an ombre piece which adds so much interest to what could have been very plain. She quilted this with a spiral design board. The circles add a hypnotic feel mixed with all that brightness.

Color theory, or the use of color in arts, can be very fun to learn. Warm colors are beautiful and can be combined in so many ways. Remember, a store bought blanket can warm the body, but a handmade quilt can warm the heart.
