You know that feeling when you are working on a project that just lights you up? Inevitably you think about it all the time and talk to random strangers about it too? Well, that describes one of my recent quilted projects that is in the May/June 2021 Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine.

Meet Bruce. We call him Bat Cat.

Bruce the BatCat - Quilted Joy

Have you figured out yet why his name is Bruce?

Bruce is our kitten and this photo sums up his typical day.

But, when he sleeps he sleeps like the dead. I wanted to create a special snoozy spot for him and that was how the Shark Bait cat bed was born! I have to thank my friend, Melanie Peterson. She did all the hard crunching of the math to determine what size worked best for everything. I couldn't have pulled this off without her!

This is a challenging project but seeing the kitties jump into the mouth of the shark is so WORTH IT! Have you noticed the prairie point teeth are made from black and white kitty fabric? And the fuzzy lounging pillow inside the shark has catnip in it to increase the pounces!

Oh, and Bruce is willing to share his Shark Bait cat bed. Here is a photo so Noodles camping out in there too. Why do we call him Noodles? Ah, my quilty friend that is a story for another time. :)

I just LOVE this project! The day we recorded this episode for the Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting show I was nervous.

Angela Huffman and Sara Gallegos have fun with the Shark Bait Cat Bed on the set of Love of Quilting TV show

There is a LOT of ground to cover to make this and we only have about 20 minutes to get it in. Sara was so great helping sew everything together on camera. Have I mentioned how much fun we have together and how awesome she is? Here's the promo for the Shark Bait episode.

You'll find the Love of Quilting show on PBS channels coast to coast and Canada, too! It airs at different times around the country so check with your PBS station for the time in your area. And... if they don't carry it... call and protest! All PBS stations are provided this show free of charge- they just have to pick it up so grab your quilty friends and ask your local PBS station to pick it up!

Shark Bait is a very big pattern so you'll find part 1 in the May/June 2021 edition and the second half will be in the July/August 2021 edition of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine!
