There are people out there that decorate for every holiday. They even have “fall” and “spring” decorations that keep their home ever changing and fresh. I wish I was that person. I manage to decorate for Christmas, but not much more. If I could keep it simple, I would probably do a better job of it. One way to add a touch of seasonal flair to your decor is with a lap quilt. All you have to do is dig it out and throw it on the couch. Now that's something I can do!

Spring Quilts

Trina made this super cute applique quilt with umbrellas and polka dots. She chose the spirals design board because she thought it resembled the top of an umbrella. Once she had it done, all I can see is the rings made by a drop of water in a puddle. I love it! It was the perfect choice for this quilt without question. Wouldn’t this bring some bright color and whimsy flair to an otherwise gloomy rainy spring day?

Kathleen had some friends whose Love language was receiving and giving gifts. So she decided to give them gifts that always stay wrapped. The quilt on the right is just a single panel that she quilted because of our two hour minimum. Seamless, the pantograph she used, quilts up super fast, and kind of resembles party streamers on the gift quilt. On the Pooh Bear panel it could easily be seen as the path of a bumble bee. A loopy meander can work for most quilts. A quilt like that gift quilt, though, would be a fun way to decorate for a birthday or anniversary every year. It’s fun to remember how a person or relationship can be a gift in our lives.

Fall Quilts

This Halloween masterpiece is from Nancy. She was learning how to use the longarm machines with this quilt. She chose Becker’s Shooting Star pantograph which has stars and swirls with echoing. It is a lovely pantograph that quilts a little denser than the Star Dance pantograph. Because this was her first time, her stars didn’t come out as straight as she had wanted. Well let me tell you, those stars look just like the whimsical stars and writing that are all over that panel. I think her quilting looks spot on for that quilt. It was the perfect selection and it was done perfectly in my opinion. What a fun way to bring some seasonal flare to your decorating.

Winter Quilts

This is Falicia’s Christmas wall hanging that she made for her sister. She was so nervous about it. Her sister is a gifted artist herself. Well, I don’t know what she’s so worried about. I think she did an awesome job! Don’t the red petals of the tree just pop out at you. And if you look closely at the background stippling you’ll see the occasional star for some added flair.

Anna Maria made this beautiful quilt during a quilt along. The trees are all pieced, but the vine around the edge was a laser cut applique. Isn’t it just lovely? It has such a cool winter feel to it. I think it would look amazing to use this quilt to add a little winter season decorating during January or even February. She quilted it with the Lida pantograph. It has a sort of hooked feather feel that combines just the right amount of traditional feather and modern edge to edge design. It worked well with this quilt.

All Seasons Quilts

Talk about seasonal flair, these quilts take it literally. Pat made these wall hangings showing the four seasons, with the help of some women veterans. They dyed and then stamped the fabric to display the snow of winter through the new growth of spring, bright colors of summer, and the fall leaves of autumn. She quilted these with free motion to mimic the swirls of air flow throughout the quilt.

Changing the decor in your home doesn’t have to be a huge ordeal. You can place a fresh new center piece on the table, or a have a hook on the wall that is dedicated to a wall hanging or framed picture that can be swapped out occasionally. Changing your throw quilt can also be one of those techniques that allows you to bring a little seasonal flair into your home.
