Lots of Renter Activity!
One thing we love here at Quilted Joy is the huge variety of quilts our renters and customers bring in. We love the colors, the styles, and the stories behind the quilts - and every quilt is different.
Margie quilted this quilt a few weeks ago. At first, it looks random, but if you look at it long enough, you see that the squares are arranged into a repeating pattern. See the groupings of eight squares around a tilted center? This is the kind of detail that I would not see immediately if I were quilting this quilt for a customer, because my working area would be small. To allow the fabrics and the block arrangement to be the focus, Margie chose the meander design board and a light neutral thread that blended well across all of the fabrics, especially the background.
Anna brought this top in and gave it a custom treatment. The top was pieced by someone else and appeared from the fabrics to be vintage rather than recently pieced. She quilted swirls in the solid green blocks, a combination of swirls and leaves in the sashing, and leaves in the white cornerstones. Anna tried using rulers to echo around the stars, but discovered that tools aren't always helpful, especially if the piecing is imprecise. A super-straight line can draw attention to a less-straight one. She decided instead to do a freehand echo around the stars, which allowed her quilting lines to be more forgiving.
Pam pieced and quilted this memorial quilt for a friend. The pinwheel blocks include pieces of a family member's clothing. Since his name was Charlie, she arranged her blocks so that a "C" appears in the center of the quilt. Pam quilted this quilt with the Star Dance pantograph to honor his service in the military.
Debbie recently finished this gorgeous queen-sized Glacier Star top. She loves the color purple and most of these fabrics came from her stash! She chose to quilt her project with an edge-to-edge design, using the butterfly design board. Can you guess what color thread she used to quilt her Glacier Star?
We'll be back soon with another renter update!
