Keeping It Simple
After spending hours cutting fabric and piecing it together, sometimes my renters don't want the quilting to be the star. Or sometimes they're on a time limit and just need something quick and easy. Read on for a few different ways folks have kept their quilting simple!
I love, love, love this baby quilt Colleen worked on during her rental! Colleen has a lot of very lucky grandkids, nieces, and nephews because she’s always working on something adorable. Those fabrics are so much fun and her grandson will absolutely love this. In fact, Colleen expects he’ll be using this quilt a lot. She quilted a simple free motion meander that will hold up well as he uses this quilt for many years!
Jean brought in a prayer quilt from her church. She says they make lots of quilts and give them to families when someone is in the hospital. This particular quilt has a USA theme that would be perfect for a veteran. The first thing Jean said when she walked in was that she wanted a simple quilting design. Our simplest option is a design board with a wide open meander or, as some folks like to call it, a stipple. Jean’s quilt looked lovely and I’m sure someone will be so happy to have it and know their congregation is thinking of them through this tough time.
Pat’s quilt wasn’t originally intended to be a Christmas quilt. She made this quilt years ago for a block of the month class. The pieced blocks sat in her sewing room for a long time before she finally put them all together. When she was finally ready to add a border to this quilt, the only fabric she had that matched the red and green blocks was Christmas fabric. She’s decided to embrace the theme and chose the Orange Peel design board for her quilting. I think the circles look a little like Christmas ornaments!
I think the theme for Erin’s quilt was simplicity. She’s calling it her super-sized Ohio Stars quilt, you can read about her process over on her blog House on Hill Road. The fun prints paired with bright solids and a white background looks so effortless. She quilted simple linear loops that add a playful texture.
