Sometimes it's fun to just focus on how the renters are using the design boards. If you aren't familiar with these, they are boards with grooves carved in a design. A stylus attached to the longarm machine runs through the groove and moves the machine along the lines of the pattern. This is a great way to get consistent quilting results! Bonnie pieced together some of her scraps to make her top for her rental certification class. This is a perfectly reasonable approach, by the way. You will be practicing in your rental certification class, so we recommend that you save your future Paducah-winning tops for another day! During rental certification class, design board use is free, so it's a good time to give them a try. (They rent for $8 normally.) Bonnie chose the meander design board and a dark red thread for her quilting and the results are great! Nancy also used a design board for her certification class. She wanted to quilt a design that wouldn't overpower her pieced Christmas trees, so she picked the orange peel design which provides a very regular overall texture. Nancy also selected a darker red thread that blended with most of her fabrics. Looks wonderful, Nancy! Colleen is a more experienced quilter but was really curious about trying our Double Bubble design board. She made this sailboat quilt for a relative who spends a great deal of time on and around water. It's a perfect use of the bubbly design! Colleen chose a white thread for her quilting and it blends beautifully. Sheri added some borders to this gorgeous panel to make it a wallhanging. She used the Funky Flowers design board for her quilting and a bluish-gray thread that functioned as a neutral. Sheri chose her backing from among our extra wide backing fabrics - what a perfect match for the top and the quilting design.
