Using Children's Line Drawings as Quilt Blocks
I've been keeping this project a secret for a while but I can finally share it with you!! First, you need to meet my triplets. Here's a photo from the way back machine.
They are in college now but back when they were small they would spend hours drawing and I've saved a number of my favorite little line drawings from them. This is one of my favorite photos ever of my kidlets. Notice that BirdMan's little boots are on the wrong feet. Don't you love that? :)
Their line drawings make my heart melt and I wanted to find a way to preserve them and render them in thread. So, I made a mantle scarf featuring the line drawings from my triplets that were special to me and I love the way it turned out. Here's a photo of the mantle scarf on the set of the Love of Quilting show. Look closely and you'll see the floor director peeping out from behind!
This technique is a free motion embroidery technique using bobbin work and pearl embroidery thread. I set them on point for the mantle scarf and quilted it on my APQS Millennium.
