The Card Trick is one of the newer traditional blocks. With the oldest known examples dating from some time in the 70’s, the Card Trick has been a favorite for a couple of decades. Though not from the pioneer days of quilting, it is fast becoming a classic and will be considered a “traditional” block at some point in the future. Carol made this beautiful example of the Card Trick and brought it to me to quilt. Carol brought me this lovely Card Trick quilt for quilting. Her piecing design was fairly simple, so she wanted to keep the quilting simple too. Take a look at her lovely quilt! Carol used only five fabrics in her quilt which really keeps your focus on the “cards”. The blocks are pieced with the points right to the edge of the blocks. She then added sashing between the blocks. But because she used a solid cream fabric for the background and the sashing, you don’t notice where one block ends and the next begins. The cards just float unconnected on a field of cream. I think it is very striking. She chose to have it quilted with a budget meander. Regardless of what design you choose, your choice of sashing can play quite a difference in the finished project.
