Baby Quilts, T-shirts, & More!
Each of our longarm renters is at a different place in his or her quilting journey. Some are just getting started while others have been making quilts their whole lives. As a result I get to see a smorgasbord of quilts, styles, skill levels and more. Read on for four quilters working on very different quilts.
Jean is quickly becoming one of our regulars, she either has a big stack of UFOs or she’s a prolific quilter! We love this adorable baby quilt with a stair step pattern. It’s so springy and bright, you can’t help but smile! It’s hard to see, but the white row of stairs has little chicks. Too cute! Maybe with those little chicks in mind, she quilted this with the feathers design board for a traditional all over design. We’ll have even more quilts from Jean next time.
LuAnn brought in this President’s Day quilt featuring George Washington. She didn’t want to stitch over Washington’s face, so she free motion quilted the whole thing and traced around his face. After staring at his face all day, she was joking she never thought she’d dislike the founding father so much! Donna always has the cutest and sweetest fabrics! To make this quilt Donna took advantage of a Accuquilt die cutter to cut all of the squares. She doesn’t like cutting, and using the die cutter gives her more time to focus on the parts of quilting she enjoys. Donna choose a very traditional quilting design for her pinwheel block baby quilt. Orange peels can be a difficult design to quilt; everything needs to be the same and a slight imperfection can stand out. We make them much easier to quilt with our design boards, and Donna’s quilt looks fantastic!
Colleen made this T-shirt quilt for her friend’s husband. He’s been running the annual Kentucky Derby Festival mini marathon for a long time now and has collected quite a few shirts over the years. Colleen’s friend really wanted to find a new use for them and turned to Colleen for help. Initially Colleen was told to do whatever she wanted with them, so she put together the top as you see it here. But, when she sent a picture of the top, she received a nervous phone call from her friend wondering why she hadn’t included all of the shirts. Thankfully Colleen still had the shirts and added them to the backing fabric. Colleen needed a good quilting design for a man, so she used the square spiral pantograph. Colleen’s friend will love having this keepsake of all the races he ran over the years!
