A Family of Newly-Minted Longarm Renters
Charity asked us earlier this year if we could accommodate a somewhat larger certification class than usual. (We try to limit the class to two students so each gets plenty of personal attention from the teacher.) With a little scheduling work, we were able to say yes, so...
Say hello to Charity, her mother, her mother-in-law, and two of her aunts! Some of us are fortunate to have quilters in our family. While all of these ladies quilt, none had ever used a longarm before and they wanted to learn together.
We always recommend that rental certification students bring in a small quilt top to try their new skills on. Each student brought her own quilt to work on, and they were all very different. One student simply brought yardage of a border print, two brought nine-patches, one brought a Card Trick design, and Charity brought a pinwheel top. These are just the right size - perfect for longarm certification.
This nine-patch quilt was made from men's shirts - we believe it was a memory quilt - and was quilted using the Orange Peel design board. This is a very quick design to quilt and she was finished in no time. The Card Trick top (see group picture) was quilted using the small and large spirals design board, also a very popular design that is quick to quilt.
The other nine-patch top and the panel were quilted using the meander design board. These quilters are both Charity's aunts and because the meander design is quick to finish also, they used the same machine, one after the other, and STILL had plenty of time.
Charity tried something a little different, using the Toss Up pantograph rather than a design board. She is a new quilter - this was either her first or second top. She made sure each of her relatives quilted a small area of her quilt, making her finished project a neat remembrance of the occasion.
Even Charity's uncle made it to the studio for a little while!
Great job, ladies!!!
