Do you have a pair of jeans or a favorite jean jacket that’s still full of life but ready for a creative refresh? Or maybe a collection of orphan quilt blocks, fabric scraps, lace, or decorative threads just waiting for the right project? This inspiring upcycling class is the perfect opportunity to bring those forgotten treasures together into something new, personal, and completely one-of-a-kind.
Students are encouraged to bring jeans or jean jackets as their base, along with any decorative materials they’d like to incorporate—such as orphan quilt blocks, fabric scraps, lace, trims, or specialty threads. Using these materials, we will explore how to transform worn or unused items into beautifully embellished, functional pieces with personality and meaning.
This class will cover the basics of simple sewing and creative construction techniques, along with an introduction to Sashiko-inspired stitching and decorative handwork. Students will learn how to layer materials, reinforce worn areas, and thoughtfully combine textures and fabrics to create visually interesting and durable designs.
The focus of this workshop is creativity, experimentation, and giving new life to materials you already have on hand. Whether you prefer subtle mending or bold, artistic embellishment, you’ll leave with new skills, inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for slow, intentional sewing.
