Learn a modern and elegant alternative to traditional quilt binding in this hands-on Facing Binding Workshop. Instead of a visible binding framing the edges of the quilt, facing creates a clean, seamless finish where the fabric wraps smoothly to the back, allowing the quilt design to extend beautifully all the way to the edge. This technique is especially popular for modern quilts, wall hangings, art quilts, and projects where you want a polished, minimalist appearance.
In this class, students will learn how to prepare, attach, and finish quilt facings while working through the process step-by-step on a quilt project of their choice. Students will gain confidence in achieving crisp corners, smooth edges, and a professional finish without the look of traditional binding.
Throughout the workshop, students will learn:
- What facing binding is and when to use it
- How to prepare and cut facing strips
- Techniques for attaching facings cleanly and accurately
- How to turn and secure facings for an invisible edge finish
- Creating smooth edges and crisp corners
- Tips for reducing bulk and improving overall quilt presentation
- Finishing techniques for wall quilts and modern quilt projects
This class is perfect for quilters looking to expand their finishing skills and explore creative alternatives to standard quilt binding. Whether you prefer modern quilt aesthetics or simply want another professional finishing option in your quilting toolbox, facing binding offers a beautiful and versatile solution.
Students will leave with new confidence in quilt finishing techniques and a beautifully finished project ready to display, gift, or enjoy at home.
