Animal Collage Quilt Workshop ✨
This is it — the one, the only, Angela’s most popular class! If you’ve ever admired stunning fabric collage animal quilts and wondered how those incredible layers, textures, and details come together, this workshop is your chance to experience the process for yourself. One of the most magical parts of this class is watching an entire classroom full of animals slowly emerge and come to life before your eyes through fabric, color, and creative layering.
In this inspiring workshop, students will take a deeper look at the artistic concepts of contrast and value and learn how these principles help define shape, movement, depth, and expression within an animal portrait. Through careful fabric selection and placement, students will discover how different prints, textures, and color values work together to create dimension and realistic outlines while still maintaining a beautifully artistic style.
This class encourages students to see their fabric stash in a completely new way. Tiny prints, unexpected colors, bold textures, and scraps that may have seemed unusable suddenly become important artistic elements in building fur, feathers, shadows, highlights, and background detail. Students will learn how to evaluate fabrics based on value and visual texture rather than simply color matching, opening up exciting new creative possibilities.
Throughout the workshop, students will learn:
- The basics of fabric collage construction
- How to use contrast and value to define shapes and create depth
- Fabric auditioning and selection techniques
- Layering methods to build texture and movement
- Tips for organizing collage pieces and managing composition
- Techniques for creating realistic outlines and visual dimension
- How to approach collage quilting with creativity and confidence
Because this class involves a significant amount of preparation before class begins, students are encouraged to register early to allow time to gather fabrics and complete pre-class prep work. Preparation is an important part of the creative process and helps students get the most out of class time.
Whether you are an experienced quilter or looking to explore a more artistic side of quilting, this workshop offers an exciting, creative experience full of inspiration, color, and imagination. By the end of class, students will not only have a beautiful developing animal collage quilt, but also a completely fresh perspective on fabric selection and artistic quilting technique.
