Finish your quilts with confidence in this hands-on Cross-Grain Binding Workshop designed for quilters who want clean, durable, and professional-looking results using machine binding techniques. In this class, students will learn how to create and apply quilt binding using the cross-grain method while completing the binding on a quilt of their choice up to 50” x 40”.
Cross-grain binding is cut across the width of the fabric rather than on the bias, making it a practical and efficient choice for many quilting projects. Students will learn why and when to use cross-grain binding, how to prepare binding strips, join them correctly, and apply them smoothly for a polished finish.
Throughout the workshop, students will work step-by-step through the machine binding process while learning valuable finishing techniques that can be applied to future quilts of all sizes. Special attention will be given to creating neat corners, smooth edges, proper seam alignment, and achieving a clean professional appearance with durable machine stitching.
Students will learn:
- How to cut and prepare cross-grain binding strips
- Joining and pressing binding for smooth application
- Machine binding techniques for efficiency and durability
- How to create clean mitered corners
- Tips for reducing bulk and improving accuracy
- Finishing methods for a polished quilt edge
