With a name like Elvira, you know this quilting ruler is going to be fun! Of all Angela Walters’s latest longarm quilting rulers, I think this is the one I’m most excited about. And not just because she’s a curvy girl and I love her name. The Elvira machine quilting ruler makes quilting curvy and wavy lines a breeze!
Where the Elvira machine quilting ruler really shines is for quilting continuous curves. You may know continuous curves as the orange peel design. Continuous curves are a grid based quilting design that arcs from corner to corner in a block. You’ll find it in so many different quilts and so many different shapes. Elvira was specially designed for continuous curves in a 2″ square, but she is so versatile you can use her in lots of different sized blocks.
Elvira has straight lines going across the width of the ruler. These reference lines are helpful for quilting continuous curves because you can use them to line up with your seams. Because most of us aren’t perfect piecers, these reference lines will help you keep your curves flattering to the blocks.
You might notice the Elvira ruler has a perfectly symmetrical hourglass figure (not unlike her namesake). This makes her super easy to quilt with from different locations. You shouldn’t even need to use the ruler behind your hopping foot! You’ll have lots of fun quilting long curvy lines. Your lines can be continuous, or you can use the needle stops to create an interesting modern look.
Angela Walters designed the Elvira machine quilting ruler with lots of features every quilter will love:
