Peppered Cotton is a fabric from Studio E. This 108″ wide cotton backing fabric is woven using two different thread colors. The warp, or the long fibers running the length of the fabric, are a dark bluish violet. The weft, or shorter selvage to selvage threads, are a bright true red. The result is beautiful and yet hard to describe.
The fabric is a solid berry wine color, but due to the fact that the color is made up of tiny little dots of blue violet and bright red, it gives it an extremely subtle varied finish. It is red fabric, but you also see the blue at the exact same time. The crosshatching effect of the weave is apparent, although it is very finely woven. It reminds me a lot of the high quality material that you might use to make a suit. The texture is also soft, making it an excellent choice as a backing fabric.
