It’s beginning to feel like crunch time! I’ll be teaching a lots of different classes this fall and traveling to different parts of the country to teach those classes. I’ve been busy this week finishing up the handouts for my students at MQX in Springfield – there’s still a few spots left in some of my classes, you can reserve your spot here! – and pretty soon I’ll be doing the same for my Longarm Schoolhouse students!
The classes for my Longarm Schoolhouse are a little daunting, because it’ll be 8 brand new classes I’m offering for the first time! I designed these classes for all skill levels. And while I call it a “Longarm” Schoolhouse, everything I’m teaching can easily be applied to both sit down and stand up quilting. Plus I’ll be making lots of extensive handouts for all my students to take home!
The Longarm Schoolhouse will take place October 25-26, 9:00am-5:00pm, and I’d love for you to join me! This two day event is $249 and lunch will be provided. Stacked Borders
Borders come in all sizes and being able to adjust free motion designs to fill the space is a vital skill to finishing your quilt tops quickly and, for those quilting for others, economically. Learn how to stack designs and mirror designs to enhance any border space. Fill up your brain with new “go-to” designs to frame out any quilt top.
Rapid Fire Grid Designs Part 1
Quilt blocks are designed on a grid. Quilt tops are laid out on a grid. It follows that using a grid may also be a pathway to amazing quilting. Gridded designs add natural symmetry, structure, and peace to a quilt’s voice. Thankfully, they are also easy to stitch and simple to adapt for use in borders or in larger areas. These designs are found in traditional and modern quilts alike. They can be simple or incredibly complex but offer a great way for beginning quilters to look super fancy! 🙂 This class will be divided into two parts with the second half being offered on day two.
Open Ruler Bar
Rulers and templates can be used in so many different ways. Many of us have rulers and we aren’t sure how the heck to use them. In this lecture/demo class, join Angela as she shows multiple ways to use a variety of common rulers from her personal collection. See how they can be used on both sit down and stand up machines as an easy route to spectacular quilting. Learn about marking techniques and how to get lots of design options from each tool.
Playing with Piano Keys
Using the basic piano key or beadboard design as a launching off point, in this class we will explore ways to spice up this basic design quickly and easily. Discover ways to move the piano key style of your choice through the corner and how to use it for both traditional and modern quilting. The piano key border design is very versatile and easily manipulated. Let’s find your own style for this classic border motif.

Background Bru-ha-ha
Break away from the common stipples and meander. Find you new happy place with easy filler designs that go fast and can be done easily! Leave the stipple stitch behind and walk away with loads of new designs that are ready for prime time in your next quilt top!

Custom Quilting: Applique
Working around applique is challenging as the type of applique – fused, needle turned, raw edge, etc will influence how you will approach the quilting for the block. In this class we will showcase a variety of ways to approach the design process for quilting an applique quilt. We will talk about balancing the scale of the quilt using a variety of background motifs. Learn how to enhance the tedious applique work by adding structure and movement with the quilting lines.
How the Heck Should I Quilt This?
Bring in up to two unquilted tops and learn how to “read” a quilt top to determine what to quilt on a top. Angela will break down each quilt and sketch out a plan for the quilting. You’ll learn what things will look best not only on your quilt top but learn from what suggestions are made on the other tops brought to class from the other students. This class is very popular and you will learn a lot about the genres of quilt styles along with how to emphasize a quilt’s strengths while minimizing any challenging areas.
