As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s freedom, we honor the courageous men and women dedicated to preserving it. Let’s not forget the sacrifices they made on our behalf. Carol’s quilt helps us to remember the unselfish dedication that our military has for the people of the United States.
Like so many of us, Carol was moved to create a quilt following the attacks on 9/11. She gathered up a large collection of patriotic fabrics and made lots of 2″ squares. To break up the background space a bit she also added a few sweet panels featuring flags, Uncle Sam, a sailor, and more. Carol opted for more muted reds and blues instead of the vibrant colors we often see on patriotic quilts. Those muted colors make the quilt feel more homey and comfortable. The perfect quilt to wrap up in after watching all the bright fireworks!
Carol loves to add an embroidered label to the back of her quilts. Her label details who it’s for, when she finished it, and why she made it. She was very considerate and remembered to include me as the quilter. She also added a panel to the back depicting a soldier and Psalm 4:8.
The quilting of course needed to be reminiscent of the American flag. I love the Stars and Stripes pantograph for quilts like this. It quilts up so nicely and it looks so much like a flag waving in the wind! I love seeing all the flags lining the streets during the month of July.
Have a happy 4th of July!
