Mary Ann’s Custom Quilt

Mary Ann spent two days on the Mille last week working on this fun and colorful quilt top.  I just love all of those colors and crazy patterns!  The fabric was a big reason she made the quilt.  She found the Tula Pink kit on Craftsy.com, and really wanted all of that fabric!

To quilt the top, Mary Ann decided to use some of the techniques she learned in my ruler class.  She did straight line ruler work in the setting triangles, marking her lines with a Marvy marker and using a base expander to support the rulers.  She didn’t have any trouble using the rulers, as long as she remembered to keep pressure on her rulers.  To contrast with those straight lines, she added squiggly lines to the print triangles.  The medium grey Glide thread she used really pops on those triangles!

Custom Quilting

This wasn’t her first time doing custom work, but it was the first time planning around specific shapes.  She was a little nervous at first, but discovered the quilting would be just as wild and crazy as the fabric!  Great work Mary Ann!
