This is Fay’s Dresden Plate. It is made out of thirties fabrics with the cat and the fiddle being the star of the focus fabrics. Isn’t it cute?
She wants this quilt done custom so I’ve pulled in a photo of the block into my computer. I then use a Wacom tablet to draw on the photo in Adobe Photoshop. This gives me a chance to experiment and audition ideas.
When I finally get a design I like, I send it to my client for their approval. As you can see, I used a tri-leaf design in the corners of the background and a loop in each of the plate’s slices on Fay’s quilt. Finally, a vine leaf is added to the sashing with the cornerstones having a looped star that echoes the center circle.
The alternative design I did has echo quilting around the plate, outline stitching in the petals of the plate and curlies in the sashing.
